Uncovering the mysteries of autism

Autism is something that affects the part of the brain which helps us to communicate with others. It is something that people get mixed with up being retarded but could not be further from the truth. It affects those aged three and up. The sufferer may know what they want to say but unable to get their message across. This causes frustration in the sufferer especially at the beginning as he or she learns how to deal with it. The child is often misunsderstood as one having a behaviourable or emotional problem but this in most cases is further than the truth. If there are any behaviour or emotional issues in the autistic child then it is down to the frustration of not being able to communicate their needs and wants.

No one knows the cause of autism though it is found that autism sufferers have abnormalities in their brain in comparison to non-autism people. The signs of autism are hard to define as they differ from one individual to another. The average age of diagnosis is between two and three years of age. It has often been the case that parents are aware of their child’s disability earlier than a medical diagnosis is given.
